Principal Māori and Health Equity Advisor

The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (the College) is looking for a Principal Māori and Health Equity Advisor to join our Equity Group. 

 The Principal Māori and Health Equity Advisor will be part of the team responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Te Rautaki Māori (the College’s Māori strategy) and Te Whāriki Taurite (the College’s equity framework). 

 The Principal Māori and Health Equity Advisor will contribute to the Equity Group’s programme of work by having a thorough understanding of the strategic context in which the College operates; understanding the priorities and perspectives of the College board, Te Akoranga a Māui, the broader College membership, and key external stakeholders; and assisting College teams to understand the ways in which their day-to-day work contributes to meeting Te Rautaki Māori and Te Whāriki Taurite strategic objectives. 

Skills, experience, and attributes  

 
Candidates should have the following qualifications, essential skills, and experience: 

  • Able to apply a current, in-depth understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi | the Treaty of Waitangi to the health sector. 
  •  A personal commitment to improving inequitable health outcomes, including for Māori 
  •  Relevant university degree and professional qualification or equivalent experience. 
  •  Recognised competence in te reo and tikanga Māori. 
  •  Confident relationship management skills. 
  •  Experience in the successful implementation of Māori focused strategies. 
  •  An ability to prepare clear and persuasive written material, including for reports. 
  •  Excellent presentation and communications skills. 
  •  Able to translate strategy into action while maintaining a focus on achieving long-term goals. 
  •  Proven ability to deliver projects through to completion.

The organisation  

The College is the professional body and postgraduate educational institute for general practitioners (GPs) and rural hospital doctors. Our 70+ operational staff support approximately 5,500 College members with an aim to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities.
