College response to Health Committee on Health (National Cervical Screening Programme) Amendment Bill

College news
04 May 2018

The College has submitted feedback to the Health Committee on the Health (National Cervical Screening Programme) Amendment Bill, a government bill.

The intention of this Bill is to enable a range of health professionals who provide services to women regarding cervical screening, including GPs, to directly access information from the National Cervical Screening Programme register staff.

The College’s position

The College supports this Bill as it is a significant improvement over the current situation, where a fax is sent to a GP.

We also continue to support the Health (Cervical Screening (Kaitiaki) Regulations 1995.

The College has developed this position based on our own analysis of the Bill and feedback from our members, in particular our women's health professional interest group.

Next steps

The Health Committee is due to report back to Parliament on this Bill by 20 September 2018.
