General practice was the branch of medicine I had always wanted to do. I enjoy the priveledged relationship with patients as we try to solve problems, work through the healing process and offer comfort.
My practice has in the past been strongly focussed on women, children and older adults and now in my current practice there is a stronger gender balance with more men presenting for healthcare.
I have a particular interest in sports medicine and in the elderly.
Being married with a family, I have a good understanding of the tensions of work-life balance that doctors face. I have coped by working part-time.
Teaching appeals because I enjoy sharing what I have learnt from experience and because I want to learn from the next generation of GPs. I have had a lot of experience in the governance and administration of the RNZCGP Education Programme and would like to continue working to increase the numbers or GPs and the quality of care they provide to the community.
