CME Update - International Conferences

For those considering attending international conferences and wondering if you can claim MOPS points here is some helpful information.

The College does not endorse overseas conferences as we can’t monitor/control commercial or sponsor bias within offshore events. However, we do allow credits to be logged by participants if they apply on an ad hoc basis and are able to indicate how the CME fits within their ongoing professional development plan.

Doctors undertaking MOPS throughout the 2011 – 2013 triennium are required to develop annual Professional Development Plans and consider how their professional development aligns with the Curriculum and the competencies contained within the domains. The College Curriculum is organised under five domains and each has specific competencies required of a GP working in primary care in New Zealand.

If you intend going to an international conference and want to have the credits recognised for your MOPS, you will need to send proof of your attendance (an invoice and/or a certificate of participation), a breakdown of the sessions you attended (include the programme and the length of time in hours/minutes of the sessions you attended) and an overview of what learning outcomes you achieved and what bearing this has had in the way you manage your patients and/or your practice.

Whenever members attend offshore conferences, it is always good to hear how it translates into the New Zealand context and the College extends an invitation to you to share with us any new insights gleaned or thoughts on implementing sound quality and safety practices within the New Zealand health system
