Council

The Council has the primary governance role in the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.The Council formulates policy, instigates and monitors actions to fulfil the objectives of the College. The Council may delegate any of its functions to committees, which shall conform to any regulations that may be imposed on them by the Council.

The Voting Members of the Council are:

  • President of the College, who must be a Fellow
  • Deputy President, who must be a Fellow
  • Two Representatives from each Faculty
  • Up to three Chairpersons of Council Standing Committees as determined by the Council

The Non-Voting members are:

  • Chief Executive Officer and
  • Officers Elect

At specified times, the Council may be joined by:

The President Elect and the Deputy President Elect

These occasional members shall have attendance and speaking rights but not voting rights.

Rotorua GP to be the next RNZCGP President

Fulltime Rotorua GP Harry Pert has won the Presidency of the RNZCGP for 2009-2011, with his Deputy the former editor of the New Zealand Family Physician, Tony Townsend.

Dr Townsend was made a Distinguished Fellow of the College at the 2008 College Conference in Queenstown.

Next Council Meeting is at the College on Wednesday, 18 March 2008  from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The meeting is preceded by the Research and Charitable Education Trust Meeting held at 9.30 a.m.
