General Practice is about attitude. Attitude to always strive to do the best. When did this change? Has it changed? Is someone telling us lies?

Dr Tane Taylor
At the time of print I have completed a total of 145 Cornerstone Practice Accreditation visits and a total of 108 Fellowship practice assessments. I have yet to come across a “grumpy GP”. I have come across GPs who are grumpy with life in general (like in all walks of life), but not one grumpy with general practice itself.
What I have found though, are highly passionate, hard working, committed doctors, nurses, admin personnel serving their communities. People who take pride in their high quality work, who are running successful business supporting themselves and their families.
Having had the privilege to meet and share ideas at the coalface, in your practices, in your homes, not at some CME vineyard or pharmaceutical sponsored gathering, has given me great insight into the dynamics of general practice. I have felt the pulse and understand the rhythm – our heart is beating strong.
If there is one thing we would like to achieve as your President/Deputy president, is to reduce if not eliminate your ‘college-induced’ frustrations. However, for us to do that you will need to engage with the college and tell us all about your frustrations – is that a deal?

Dr Tim Malloy
The general principles that we have for the College are very similar across the board. We acknowledge previous presidential contenders N Turner and J Wellingham whose platform we have adopted as follows:
Tim is a ‘take no prisoners’ kind of man. He has the drive of an ox, and the heart of a lion. He is well known in both the rural community/rural network and Waitemata PHO land. Both Tim and I loathe silence – unless one is sleeping or meditating. We are catalysts for debates. We want people to talk, challenge, agree, disagree but all done with dignity.
Tane and Tim have impressive records in developing and implementing “Learning Environments” for both undergraduate and postgraduate GP training. Tim was the main driver in setting up and maintaining the Centre of Excellence for Rural Primary Care, a multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary education unit in collaboration with the Waitemata DHB.
“I’m asking You to Believe, not just in my ability to bring about real change…I’m asking you to believe in Yours” – Barack Obama
Tane brings a unique but broad range of experiences and skills. He is the only New Zealand Maori, Albanian trained practicing physician in the world. A doctor, GP, Maori, New Zealander, International Medical Graduate, Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, Diploma in Obstetrics, Fellow of the Australian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, PRIMEX examiner, PRIMEX exam writer, Fellowship Assessor, Cornerstone Assessor, Faculty Chair, Private consultant, Past President NZMA Auckland division, GP Teacher, Undergraduate medical Teacher, Medical Council IMG Supervisor , Student Masters/PhD and more…..
Between us we have over 10 years of governance expérience at the College Council level. We bring to the college what we see as lacking – openness, transparency, integrity, accountability and enthusiasm.
