The Oral Health Clinical Leadership Network for New Zealand has recently been established.
In February of this year experienced and respected clinical leaders representing the Dental, Dental Therapist and Dental Hygienist professions, as well as Oral Health Promoters, Dental Service Managers and Maori Oral Health Providers came together to discuss pressing oral health issues and priorities. Also at this first network meeting an Executive Group was elected.
The Executive met for the first time on March 21st 2011 and is developing a two-year work programme, addressing topics raised by the wider Clinical Leadership Network and oral health profession as a whole. The primary focus is on publicly funded dental services, but is inclusive of the private dental sector.
Improving the oral health of all New Zealanders is a key focus for the Executive, and this has many aspects, including:
There is a strong desire within the Executive group to see equitable access to all publicly funded oral health services across all District Health Boards. Ensuring there is better national consistency in terms of the delivery of evidence based, high quality oral health care to every eligible patient is also a key priority. We also want to ensure that primary care health services are delivering consistent and appropriate oral health messages, and to continue to see oral health better integrated into overall general health.
If you feel you have something to offer us in terms of knowledge and support, or you have an idea or issue you think we should look at, or you would just like to know more, we would love to hear from you. We would also welcome opportunities to build relationships with other similar groups.
