In November 2007 the Ministry of Health announced funding to accredit every remaining general practice in New Zealand. This funding is available to June 2011. Practices must register with the programme and meet the criteria to be classified as a ‘general practice’. The general practice must be contracted to a Primary Health Organisation and have not received funding previously from the Ministry of Health, Accident Compensation Corporation or a District Health Board for the same level of accreditation. For the avoidance of doubt, practices going for reaccreditation will not be eligible for this funding.
There will be no direct cost to the practice. The funding includes:
· Administration of the practice accreditation process at the RNZCGP
· Resources including Aiming for Excellence and other relevant College publications
· Access to the Geethal Data Systems Limited software
· One-year license to use the on-line system including the electronic version of Aiming for Excellence including guide notes and an additional resources list (including websites)
· On site evaluation by two CORNERSTONE assessors over one full day
· A documented report of the assessment findings and recommendations
· Verification of the report by Health and Disability Auditing New Zealand and their recommendation of the practice for accreditation
· Certification by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners
· Framed certificate
