Teachers and Medical Educators provide invaluable assistance and support for trainees on the GPEP1 and postgraduate rural general practice education programmes. Teachers are Fellows of the RNZCGP and are contracted to teach registrars and provide oversight for them.
Teachers go through a selection process. You may, in the first instance, want to discuss your opportunities for teaching in your area with programme GPEP Directors/Medical Educators as well as finding out about existing teaching practices.
Maori and Pacific doctors may wish to make contact with the GPEP Maori Director, Keri Ratima.
Then, if you wish to take the matter further, the College will arrange a practice visit after you have provided a practice profile form.
For further information related to teaching see the becoming a teacher information sheet and teacher job description.
The programme is also supported by a number of Medical Educators who run the seminar programme, support teachers and teaching practices and have a registrar recruitment, workforce development and networking role within a region. If you are interested in contributing to the programmme in this way, contact Sam Murton, Acting Clinical Director.
