GPEP2

General Practice Education Programme Stage 2

Stage 2 of the RNZCGP's General Practice Education Programme (GPEP2) leads to Fellowship of the College. Most candidates are required to spend a minimum of two years FTE in the GPEP2 programme; the exact amount of time depends on their previous training and experience as a general practitioner. A number of GPEP2 pathways are available, depending on the candidate's previous experience and current work in general practice.

Most candidates begin their GPEP2 programme after taking the Primex examination. At the beginning of each of Parts 1 and 2 of GPEP2, candidates submit a Professional Report and Plan of activities they intend undertaking to develop their professional knowledge and skills. These activities must include at least 20 hours of approved Continuing Medical Education and at least 15 hours of peer review group activities annually. Candidates also undertake a patient survey, record review and are visited by a trained GPEP2 facilitator in Parts 1 and 2.
