This part of the training programme is for doctors who have sat Primex, or have completed comparable training. This stage of the programme continues your preparation for Fellowship in order to practice as a vocationally registered general practitioner.
You must be working at a minimum of two tenths in an appropriate clinical area to participate in GPEP2. The programme is 26 months full time equivalent but this may be reduced for approved previous experience, or longer if you are working part time. GPEP2 general practice experience must be undertaken in one or more of the following:
If the practice you wish to work in does not meet the above criteria, a formal request for the practice to be accepted as a GPEP2 training practice can be made.

Your training pathway and time will be determined for you as an individual, according to your training, experience and number of tenths currently worked in general practice. There is also a Research Registrar Programme available for GPEP2 senior registrars. This is an exciting and innovative pathway for those who would like to develop skills in general practice research.
In GPEP2 you will work in general practice alongside Fellows, further developing your skills and knowledge, and clinical practice. During the course of your clinical time you will be allocated to a learning group and undertake a series of learning activities and formative assessments, supported by the College’s Online Web Learning platform – OWL, and a visiting Medical Educator.
As well as meeting your MCNZ requirements for general registration, you will complete clinical audits, have in-practice visits from a Medical Educator and complete a multi-source feedback exercise. Once you complete your requirements for GPEP2 you will be able to undergo Fellowship assessment.
