Highlights of the RNZCGP Board meeting held in Wellington on the 16 March 2011.
The Board discussed new purpose and vision statements for the College that were developed at its Strategic Direction Day held earlier this month. A subcommittee of Board members, staff and expert advisors has been tasked with further refining the draft statements and taking them back for the Board to discuss at its 4 May meeting. These will be circulated for member comment through the faculties.
The Board received a report on the Education Expert Advisory Group’s work on continuing professional development and approved the general direction of principles recommended by the Group as the basis for a College Continuing Professional Development plan, including CPD for general registrants. College management has been asked to come back to the Board with a high level next steps paper in May. The authors of the paper – College General Manager, Professional Development Jane Dancer and EEAG Chair Dr Steven Lillis were thanked by the Board for the quality of the paper and the substantial work that went into it.

The Board noted a précis of the minutes of five meetings held by the seven faculties and one sub-faculty. There were a number of issues raised in the minutes, and the Board has asked College management to come back to it with an urgent paper recommending how the issues should be dealt with.
Both the President and the CEO updated the Board on actions taken by the College following the Christchurch earthquake, including their attendance at the funerals of Dr Dominic Bell and Dr Allan Sinclair.
