QI4GP

General practice in New Zealand has identified several areas for improvement, so that we can continue to be a world leader in all aspects of primary care.

Patients, whānau and communities:

Want to have better access to quality health information, particularly information about their long-term health and in the process, have their cultural, literacy and means of access needs taken into account.

Want better access to their own – and summary - health records, while being assured that information is being accessed and shared securely and appropriately.

Want to be more involved in decision making about their health care.

Are concerned about their safety when they are patients – GPs remain the largest group of health practitioners to be subject to complaints.

Want to be better connected to regional and national programmes, e.g. screening programmes and care programmes such as “Get Checked” for Diabetes.

..and General practice:

Share the concerns of the patients, whānau and the communities we practice in.

We want to be better at what we do and to provide a better quality service, to improvethe health outcomes of our patients and reduce inequalities.

We want our patients, whānau and communities to have confidence and trust in us.

And we want our patients to have better access to the information and services they need and to be involved in decisions about their health care.

This qi4gp project is being driven by general practice, for general practice.

The four major general practice organisations in New Zealand are involved:

The Independent Practitioner Associations Council (IPAC)

The New Zealand Medical Association

The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners

The New Zealand Rural General Practitioners Network
