Requirements
Entry requirements
- New Zealand citizenship or permanent residence for CTA funded positions
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Those doctors who are provisionally registered are advised to check their eligibility to join the training programme with the College prior to submitting their application
- Completion of two full-time equivalent years of appropriate medical experience after graduating (this would normally be RMO runs), see Selection Criteria. One of these years must be in New Zealand for CTA funded positions
- Two satisfactory referee reports of recent medical experience.
- Part-time trainees must be in general practice a minimum number of tenths during the General Practice Training Programme. For CTA funded registrars the requirements are 7/10ths for 12 months (or other agreed period)
Criteria for selection
Favourable factors which will be taken into account in the selection process:
- Firm intention to enter general practice
- RMO experience including at least six of the following:

- Demonstrated commitment to general practice addressing:
- Mãori health needs
- Rural health
- Other government priority health areas including Pacific health needs
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching medical students and colleagues
