Research in the College

The College has recently set up a research group (College Research Group-CRG) to develop and enhance its capacity in general practice and primary health care research. This initiative is in accordance with the College Strategic Plan 2004-2006. The main purpose of the CRG is “to conduct, direct, encourage, support or provide for research matters relating to general practice, and to publish and encourage publication of journals, reports and treatises on matters relating to general practice and allied subjects. The CRG has a Terms of Reference, ‘Framework for research in the College,’ and an ‘Annual Research Plan’ to operationalise its activities, and foster high-quality research practices from its members and staff. Support from all College members is integral to achieving the aims of the CRG.

Research and Education Charitable Trust

Developments in the research and education trust have been substantial for 2004 as a result of the addition of a $10 levy specifically for the trust. Priorities for the use of funds are in line with the Objects of the Trust and includes:

  • Promotion of ‘grassroots’ research
  • Obtaining Medline listing for the NZFP
  • Facilitating dissemination of information through publications about developments in general practice through IPA’s, PHO’s and projects.

A strategic plan for research is being developed with the help of Mel Pande, Policy Unit and a small group has formed to meet and work towards equitable dispersal of funds in the more useful way.
