The Rural Faculty held its Annual General Meeting during the Rural General Practice Network Conference in Wellington recently. The meeting was well-attended with more than 20 faculty members there. The Chair and Treasurer positions remain with Drs Tim Malloy and George Tripe respectively, and Dr Susie Meyer replaces Dr Jo Scott-Jones as Secretary.
The members at the meeting agreed to the Rural Faculty's decision to promote within the College a research agenda around rural workforce issues, in particular how prepared recent Members and Fellows feel to work in rural settings, and looking at the capacity for teaching within general practice.
Members also asked the Rural Faculty to explore using some of its underspent budget allocated by the College to promote CME and peer support systems for rural and remote practice. This might be in the form of financial support for video-conferencing peer groups or developing a webpage detailing peer review and CME available in various districts.
The Rural Faculty members were grateful to College CEO, Karen Thomas for taking the time to attend and helping them to understand some of the potential changes to the College Constitution later this year.
