Shorter Stays in Emergency Departments National Research Project

The Shorter Stays in Emergency Departments National Research Project has started the year with an exciting collaborative opportunity for all Health Professionals. The research aims to critically examine the whole health system to understand the impact of interventions on patient flow.

We call upon all health professionals from all sectors to become involved and help inform the development of a whole of system model for the New Zealand health sector. The final model will be used by clinicians and managers to trial changes to determine their potential effects on the health system prior to implementation with the aim of avoiding costly mistakes and ensuring all elements of the system are understood and supported prior to the implementation of change.

A whole of system model means that we need input from all sectors, as the Emergency Department target reflects how well the wider health system is working and has potential to both directly or indirectly impact on your service.

The Systems Model has been developed by Dr Peter Carswell – Investigator, Dr Alana Harper Emergency Medicine Research Fellow and Dr Peter Jones Co Principal Investigator following review of relevant health systems modelling literature and insights gathered from a collaborative multidisciplinary research forum.

As a dedicated health professional or manager, this is your chance to be involved and inform the development of an innovative system model for New Zealand. Please take the time to view the model and submit feedback directly after viewing the model. All feedback will be collated to inform the process. To view the model click here or visit our website
