Dr John Ng is the founder of Sommerville Surgery in 1994. It started with one doctor and a registered nurse who doubled up as the receptionist. It has now grown into a established practice with expanded floor space, staff and facilities.
The tremendous amount of learning over the past 17 years have prompted him to apply for a GP teaching role in order to pass on some of the speciality skills to younger doctors. Dr Ng is particularly passionate in efficient practice management and ethical patient care in a culturally sensitive environment.
Special interest includes general practice teaching, minor surgical techniques, A/E cases, pain management, geriatric and palliative care.
Dr Ng enjoys the mental and physical challenge in golf and plays table tennis with his two teenage sons. He is married to Grace who is also the practice manager and accountant at the Surgery.
Sommerville Surgery has two post fellowship doctors with a GPEP2 doctor joining in March 2012. The Surgery recently attained the much coverted CORNERSTONE Accreditation in February 2011.
Our staff includes two receptionists, two nurses and a practice manager all worked together as a happy family.
We serviced an affluent multicultural clientele consisting predominantly of Chinese speaking patients.
We are fully computerised using Profile for windows programme. Full internet, intranet access and latest electronic educational materials are available.
We also have onsite midwifery and visiting specialist services.
The registrar consults from 8.30am to 5pm. Wednesdays are spent at training programme seminars. The registrar is also expected to have sessions at retirement homes, do home visits and one late night per week on staggered time basis.
Sommerville Surgery participate in the health promotional programmes set up by Easthealth PHO like its annual free health checks which is widely supported by CMDHB and local community networks. We have patient information brochures as well as orientational materials for new staff on site.
