Teacher: Alison Wooding

Born 1960, UK born and trained in London, NZ by choice. GP since 1990 in UK and NZ. In current practice since 1996. Married, 3 children.

Special interests at work -working with diverse groups, social justice issues.

Teaching appeals to the whole practice - keeps us thinking and is stimulating. This practice has a very team-based approach which can be quite different from the more usual business model practices as the clinicians are all employees and do not have to be involved with the business side. We have nursing students and previously have had medical students and social work students, but cannot accommodate a medical student AND a registrar (lack of rooms).

Interests -family life, tramping when able, cooking, gardening and music.

The Practice

Please refer to our mission statement for the practice philosophy

Piki Te Ora ("essence of health") Aranui, very high population of Maori and Pacific Island (mainly Samoan), low .socioecomomc area

We regularly work with interpreters. We have a counsellor on staff. We have regular team meeting and clinical meetings.

We are members of Partnership PHO. We are accredited through the Te Wana accreditation scheme which is a recognised quality program for primary health care practices. We are members of Health Care Aotearoa which is an umbrella organisation to not for profit primary health care practices.

Our hours are 8.30 to 5.30 Mondays to Fridays. Our afterhours care is provided through the 24 Hour Surgery in Chch to which most GP's in Chch are affiliated. Our GP's do regular sessions.

Our practice has the usual GP facilities using med tech. We have male and female GP' s. All of us are part time so we share offices at times.
