The Teacher: Dr Stephen Smith

I have been in general practice for 15 years. I am vocationally registered in General Practice and Accident and Medical fields. I have the following special interests:

  • Sports medicine - I look after the Taranaki Air New Zealand rugby team. I am also a registered provider for the New Zealand academy of sport
  • Emergency Medicine - I work in the local Emergency Department
  • Rehabilitation Medicine - I am the doctor for the Omahanui Special Care Unit
  • Information Technology - I have been on an IT steering group for the local DHB

I am a performance assessor for the New Zealand Medical Council. I have been involved in General Practice education for over five years.

I get satisfaction with passing on my passion for general practice and helping trainess perform to the best of their abilities.

I am an active sportsman and encourage exercise and healthy diets to anyone I can.
