Tim is a principal of the practice, having been in the practice for 21 years. He graduated in 1980, but by 1986 was spending all his time at Wellsford Medical Centre. Special areas of interest include - rural medicine, paediatrics, occupational health and Maori health.
Tim believes quality teaching follows quality practice - all focussing on quality care for the patient.
Wellsford MC is a modern, efficient, purpose-built facility within easy walking distance of the town centre. The MedTech computer system has been recently upgraded. There is PHO affiliation with local Maori Health Care providers. The practice is capitated. The practice offers 24 hour a day cover, 7 days a week at the clinic. It has GP appointments for eight doctors and a drop-in ‘casualty clinic’ also.
Services available to patients include Physio, X-ray, Medlab, visiting podiatrist, community nurse. Also several specialists do private clinics. The urologist does a combination public/private clinic.
Five full time, three part-time; five male, three female. Each GP and registrar/trainee has a consulting room. Often the practice is able to provide accommodation for the registrar.
Middle to lower socio-economic groups; 15-20% Maori, normal gender and age ranges. Service several small towns and widespread farming community. Total population: 13,500.
Monday to Friday: 8am - 5.30pm.
Casualty 8am - 6pm, five days with 8 -1 Saturday
Rest of hours covered by on-call doctor
The practice has attained CORNERSTONE accreditation.
8.30am – 5pm daily except for seminar day release.
Appointment times are 30mins initially then decrease as the registrar feels comfortable. Call is done with the principal. Full on call is provided by the centre, including cover of road traffic accidents. Tim does on call one night per week and one day every fourth weekend. The registrar works with Tim on the weekend call and time off in lieu is organised. As the practice covers a wide area, Wellsford Clinic is the afterhours centre and is where call is worked from.
Outdoor activities available in the community - East and West Coast beaches, diving, snorkelling, fishing, vineyards, close proximity to Auckland.
