This session will outline a practical, GP focused approach to dyspepsia and Helicobacter pylori.

It will cover when “test and treat” is appropriate and who requires early endoscopy, in addition to interpreting alarm features in the New Zealand context, including higher-risk groups.

It will address rising antibiotic resistance, first-line eradication choices, and test-of-cure.

The aim is to provide you with a safe, practical framework for dealing with this common issue and to leave you with tips you can use in practice immediately.

Dr Cameron Schauer is a Gastroenterology Consultant at North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals. Trained at the University of Auckland, he completed a Tokyo fellowship in early endoscopic cancer detection and resection. He is undertaking a PhD focused on early gastric cancer in NZ and lectures at the University of Auckland.
