The College has responded to the MCNZ's consultation on strengthening recertification for vocationally-registered doctors.

The College’s submissions

The Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) held two consultation periods on its draft document Strengthening recertification for vocationally-registered doctors in New Zealand.

2017 submission

The first consultation period was held between January and March 2017. The College made a response based on member feedback on 20 March 2017.

After our members' concerns were noted, MCNZ Chair Andrew Connolly penned an open letter to the profession to address some proposals covered in the document.

2018 submission

MCNZ opened a second consultation starting in September 2018. The College again gathered member feedback and made a submission, dated 11 November 2018.

Next steps

At this stage, the Medical Council hasn’t released a final version of the new requirements. The College appreciate this may cause uncertainty, and intends to update members on the changes as soon confirmation has been received from MCNZ.
