3. College employed
You would be employed by the College and placed at two different practices, in the same region, across the year (two 6-month attachments). This is designed to give you a broad overview of general practice. Please expect the possibility of travel of up to 1 hour for one of your attachments and also of being placed in a rural or high-needs placement for one of your attachments. If you have any issues in regards to this, please bring it up at the interview stage.
If you are a full time college-employed registrar you are expected to complete a minimum average of eight clinical sessions per week, or a minimum average of five clinical sessions per week if you work part-time. Actual hours of work will be determined by the teacher in consultation with you. The hours do not include unpaid lunch breaks.
You will also be required to attend GPEP seminar sessions (32/40 sessions). These are one day per week, except for the Otago region where a four day block course is held monthly.
The training fees associated with GPEP 1 will be paid by the Government directly to the College. As part of your employment conditions, the College will reimburse you for programme-related expenses. If you would like more information about these, please contact: GPEP1@rnzcgp.org.nz
