“Research is four things: brains with which to think, eyes with which to see, machines with which to measure and, fourth, money.”
Albert Szent-Gyorgyi - Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1937
What is the Research and Education Charitable Trust?
“The goal is to foster research and education beneficial to general practitioners and their patients, and contribute to New Zealand’s primary health care system.”
Set up in 1990, The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners Research and Education Trust awards grants towards original research, and travel associated with education.
Currently funded by levying full members $8.00 each per year, the Trust can also accept bequests and donations. A full financial statement is included in the Trust’s annual report.
About the grants
College members can apply to the Trust for grants towards original research, and grants towards travel costs associated with professional education.
To support its goal of fostering research and education beneficial to GPs and patients, the Trust requires all recipients to:
- acknowledge the Trust’s support when publishing research papers, and
- provide the College with the findings of their research or education so it can be shared with all College members.
