Continuing Professional Development (CPD) ensures every vocationally registered GP rides on the forefront of contemporary healthcare, meeting their requirements for recertification. 

About Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Each doctor must complete and sign off 150 points of CPD every three years (50 points a year on the annual programme). Points can be earned from a range of activities activities at any time during the three-year period. Find out more about continuing professional development.

Audit of medical practice tools and resources

The MCNZ definition of the audit of medical practice is ‘a systematic, critical analysis of the quality of the doctor’s own practice that is used to improve clinical care and/or health outcomes or to confirm that current management is consistent with the current available evidence or accepted consensus guidelines’.

Cultural competence resources

Fellows and registrars of the College are expected to have developed their cultural competence skills to a high level, and to continue to maintain this. The CPD programme includes the requirement that a small proportion of a doctor’s CPD activities include activities relating to cultural competence at an individually appropriate level. Cosmetic Medicine as an advanced competency of General Practice

The Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) has recognised cosmetic medicine as an area of special interest (advanced competency) within the field of general practice, and has approved the New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine (NZSCM)  training programme (the Diploma in Cosmetic Medicine) as the qualification to support this advanced competency.

Clinical attachment activity application

DRHM Fellows are currently required to spend 120 hours per triennium (or 40 hours per annum when the period being considered in less than a full triennium) in a clinical attachment at a Base Hospital.
