The vision and principles of MCNZ’s new recertification requirements, propose a ‘strengthened approach’ to continuing professional development (CPD). You can read this part of the MCNZ’s model here (pages 5 – 7).
The new model values professional development activities that help GPs improve their professional competences, especially cultural competence and reflective learning.
The key changes in MCNZ’s revised model are an increased emphasis on:
- The formative and personal nature of professional development.
- Integration of professional development with existing or developed employment-based quality assurance or team-based learning activities.
This requirement appears to acknowledge more flexibility in completing CPD through involvement in workplace’s continuous improvement, patient care or CORNERSTONE® accreditation activities.
- Connecting professional development activities to your Scope of Practice, the work you do, and activities that provide the most value and benefit to your practice.
- Developing clinical and cultural competencies.
- Creativity and flexibility in professional development.
Evidence suggests that a one-size-fits-all model of professional development does not work, and we believe GPs will welcome having the ability to choose activities that suit their practice context and needs.
