With Acting Chief Executive Terina Moke leaving the College at the end of the month, the Board has appointed an interim
Chief Executive, Peter Tynan, to stand in until a permanent appointment can be
made.
Peter has a broad range of experience in
several senior management roles, including five years as the Chief Executive of
Southern Cross Healthcare, New Zealand’s largest private health funder – an
organisation with 850,000 members, 650 staff and an annual turnover of
approximately $900 million.
He was recently contracted to provide
oversight of Kaipara District Council, while it was recruiting for a new
permanent Chief Executive. Amongst other things, this role saw Peter take the
lead in developing the council’s key strategic documents, reviewing the organisational
structure, recruiting a new executive team, and reviewing its financial
strategy.
He is also currently providing management
support to PORSE in-home childcare, an organisation with 144 staff, $15 million
revenue and 18 sites.
Peter was welcomed to the College last
Thursday with an informal mihi, ahead of his start date of Monday 11 March.
Staff took the opportunity to chat with Peter during morning tea, and Peter
shared his views about his new role:
“I’m very pleased to be joining the College,
albeit for a short time, because it’s an organisation that has a really
important role to play in our primary health sector, focusing on supporting its
4,800 general practitioner members. I really appreciated the warm welcome from
the staff last week and am looking forward to getting to know them more during
the coming weeks.
“One of the things I hope I can bring
to the table during my time here will be to build and strengthen the College as
a team. I’ve had a lot of experience in leading cultural change and high
performing teams, so I hope I’ll be able to add some value in those areas."
