Top 5 reasons to attend GP19

This July we will be welcoming over 500 GPs and primary care professionals to the Dunedin Centre for our annual Conference for General Practice. With an action-packed programme and a vibrant series of networking and social events, GP19 promises to deliver three days of fun, learning, inspiration and celebration. Here’s five reasons to be there!

1. Learning opportunities 

The conference programme has been curated by GPs and features a range of clinical sessions that will give you tools and tips that you can put into action when you're back in your practice. 

From trauma treatment to smoking cessation, plant-based diets to pharmacy integration, the varied programme offers a wealth of clinical insights. 

The conference provides a fantastic learning opportunity and is an ideal way to contribute to your CPD. You can record up to 15 CME hours as appropriate for your learning needs.

2. International keynote speakers

You’ll have the chance to hear from an outstanding line-up of international keynote speakers, who come from an array of backgrounds.

We are delighted to have the following keynote speakers this year:

• Professor Gregory Phillips, School of Medicine at Griffith University (Australia) and CEO of ABSTARR Consulting. Gregory will be speaking about equity in health.
• Dr Marie Bismark, Law and Public Health Group, University of Melbourne. Marie will speak about patient safety and quality standards in general practice.
• Dr Mobasher Butt, GP and Medical Director of Babylon. Mobasher will speak about technology and innovation in health care.
• Ian Taylor, founder of Animation Research Ltd and 2019 NZ Innovator of the Year.

3.  Debate, educate, celebrate 

The Conference for General Practice offers a great mix of clinically focused sessions alongside streams which delve into the ‘bigger picture’ issues and solutions. 

It is a chance for primary care professionals from across New Zealand to share their experiences and teach each other, all with the aim of bettering health care delivery and improving patient outcomes.   

The conference is also a great opportunity to champion the fantastic work that GPs and allied health professionals do daily.

4. Practical workshops 

Fancy learning how to perform the ideal elliptical excision of a skin cancer? Or discovering new diagnostic procedures for hearing loss? The conference programme offers a range of practical workshops which will give you the chance to develop new skills and try your hand at procedures you’re likely to encounter in everyday practice.

The practical sessions are very popular, and some have limited capacity, so be sure to select your sessions quickly through your registration record.

5. Networking and collegiality

GP19 is as much about collegiality as it is education. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to catch up with your colleagues from around New Zealand, make new connections with like-minded professionals, and celebrate your peers gaining Fellowship and embarking on their general practice career.
