A general practitioner with over 20 years' experience has been awarded a Community Service Medal at GP22: the Conference for General Practice.
Based in the Bay of Plenty, Dr Whitworth has led and supported several initiatives, including the establishment of an annual education symposium in the Bay of Plenty, Ka Hono, a mentoring programme for GPs, and local awards for the GPEP1 audit.
College President Dr Samantha Murton says, “Dr Whitworth goes above and beyond to support the next generation of general practitioners and the GPs who train them. Her commitment to ensuring GPs in her region feel supported shows her dedication to the future of our profession.”
Dr Whitworth is Chair of the College’s Waikato Faculty which provides a number of support, learning, and collegial services and ensures members have the opportunity to be involved in local discussions and decision-making.
Each Faculty is led by an Executive team of local GPs who coordinate activities such as educational events and primary care meet ups.
The Community Service Medal recognises members who have made an outstanding contribution to general practice through work in their own communities.
