Disability Awareness training for Medical Professionals

Disability Awareness training for Medical Professionals
Hosted by the Tiaho Trust.

A workshop that is designed for Health Professionals to give disabled people excellent service when they are accessing health services.

Learning intentions

Traditionally the health sector has delivered services to disabled people through the lens of the medical model of disability. This interactive program provides practitioners with real life testaments from disabled patients who have received both good and not so good services to them. The program articulates the importance of using both the medical and social models of disability in harmony.

Anticipated outcomes

Participants of the programme will be able to reflect on whether or not their services are disabling or non-disabling to disabled patients and have an understanding on how to rectify any issues.

The “"No Problem, You're Welcome" Disability Awareness training for Medical Professionals” activity has been endorsed by The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) and has been approved for up to 2 CME credits for the General Practice Educational Programme (GPEP) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) purposes.
