Dr Jo Scott-Jones has announced he will not seek re-election to the Board when his term ends this coming July. He said time pressures and other work commitments made it difficult for him to continue in this role.
“It has been a privilege to be part of the executive driving the RNZCGP over this three-year term,” said Jo.
“However it has been difficult meeting all the obligations of a board member along with being a PHO medical director. I also think there has been a clear call from members for change at the College, and standing aside at this point will give an opportunity for that to progress further.”
College President Dr Sam Murton acknowledged the invaluable contribution Jo has made during his time on the Board.
“Jo has played an important part in the College’s governance over the last few years,” said Sam.
“It’s been reassuring to have Jo’s steady hands on the helm, and he will be sorely missed. But, given his many commitments, I completely understand his decision,” she said.
“We’ll have an official farewell for him at his last Board meeting, but for now, on behalf of the Board and all College members I would like to thank Jo for his service.”
Nominations are open for the Board position Jo is vacating. The final day to submit nomination is 15 March, with voting taking place between 29 March and 23 April. The successful candidate will be announced on Friday 26 April 2019.
