With the College Fellowship and Awards Ceremony cancelled due to COVID-19, the Waikato and Bay of Plenty Faculty took matters into their own hands to celebrate 12 new Fellows from the region.
Eighty Faculty members, friends and family attended a regional event at the Prince’s Gate Hotel in Rotorua giving the new Fellows their time to shine.
Faculty Chair, Dr Fiona Whitworth (pictured left) said it was a fantastic day in a relaxed setting.
“It was great to have a few medical educators from the area and also to see College Chief Executive Lynne Hayman and Head of Membership Services Kylie McQuellin, who made the trip from Wellington.”
Faculty executive member Dr Jo Scott-Jones was also in attendance and gave an inspirational talk about the joy of general practice and maintaining resilience.
“It was also a great opportunity for the executive to touch base in person since COVID-19 and it was valuable to once again have a face to face connection.
Fiona received from great feedback from attendees:
- “It was a fantastic occasion to celebrate with my family and it was great to see many children present.”
- “As an educator it was rewarding to see a previous young doctor reach her Fellowship and to be part of the celebration with her.”
- "Great opportunity for the Faculty to meet with its new Fellows and form a connection with them.
