Alliance Health Plus PHO celebrates primary care

30 October 2019

Alliance Health Plus celebrated the outstanding achievement and hardwork carried out by their practice network, at the annual Alliance Health Awards on Friday 11 October 2019, sponsored by the College.

The awards celebration is eagerly anticipated each year by the PHO, their network and community, providing an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible work carried out by primary healthcare providers.

Alliance Health Plus Chief Executive Wayne Williams welcomed guests and sponsors to the event, acknowledging the tough year frontline clinical teams within general practice have had, particularly with the Christchurch terror attack and the recent measles outbreak.

“The recent measles outbreak in South Auckland has tested the sector in many ways and we acknowledge Counties Manukau DHBs leadership in facilitating communications with PHOs,” Wayne said.

Approximately 200 guests packed out the room to enjoy some dinner and hear the announcement of 30 awards celebrating excellence and achievement in general practice, separated into four areas:

  1. Ministry of Health Targets
Celebrates practices exceeding Ministry of Health Targets, such as immunisation rates or cervical screening uptake.

  2. Alliance Health Plus Equity Awards
Excellence in treating Maori, Pasifika or high-needs populations, such as highest immunisation rates for Maori children aged eight months and two years.

  3. Alliance Health Plus Systems and Models of Care Awards
High achievement with systems and models of care that assist in meeting the needs of patients, such as nurse-led consults.

  4. Alliance Health Plus Innovation Awards
Celebrates innovation in general practice, aligning with Alliance Health Plus strategic goals; engage communities, increase health equity, optimise performance, lead the future.

“The recent measles outbreak in South Auckland has tested the sector in many ways and we acknowledge Counties Manukau DHBs leadership in facilitating communications with PHOs,” Wayne said.

In the spirit of giving and gifting, guests were treated to entertainment, in the form of a surprise performance by ‘The Fine Mats’ - a dance troupe made up of the Alliance Health staff. The staff are a diverse fusion of cultures and the performance blended a variety of short traditional dances into one memorable performance.

Congratulations to the practices who walked away with top awards or received special acknowledgement for their outstanding performance.
