The purpose of this paper is to brief the Minister of Health on the role of the College and the current issues facing general practice and primary care (sometimes referred to as community-based medicine) in New Zealand.

This biennial survey is carried out to gain demographics of the current workforce, as well as important insights into how specialist GPs and rural hospital doctors from right across the motu feel about their work, their place in the sector, and their own health and wellbeing.

To try and find out more about the causes of burnout and how it might be addressed, the College decided to facilitate an online ‘discussion’ with its members using Polis, a digital tool designed to gather open-ended feedback from large groups.
