Enter the 2025 Greg Judkins Poetry Competition
Entries are now open for the Greg Judkins Prize for Reflective Poetry. The competition winners will be read at GP25: Conference for General Practice.
Theme and categories
The competition is open to all College members.
The theme is ‘Surprise’ and there are two categories:
- Short poem: Up to six lines
- Long poem: Up to 25 lines

Email your poem to communications@rnzcgp.org.nz before 5pm Sunday 29 June.
All poems will be judged by GP and poet Dr Greg Judkins, poet laureate Ruth Arnison and Dr Art Nahill. The winners will be announced and read at the conference. Dr Judkins will provide each winner with a copy of his poem and short stories books.
Rules
- Entry is limited to members of The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners during the competition period.
- Poems submitted must be original, entirely the work of the entrant and not previously published anywhere.
- Only poems submitted in the form described in the competition publicity are eligible for judging.
- Only poems received by the notified closing date and time to the email address given in the competition publicity are eligible for judging.
- Prizes will be awarded to the winning poem in each of the two categories.
- By entering the competition, entrants agree to the winning poem being read aloud as part of the Prize ceremony.
- The winners will be announced at GP25: Conference for General Practice.
- The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
