Hauora Māori Noho Marae

Congratulations on joining the General Practice Education Programme (GPEP) for 2026.

A group is welcomed at Te Ahunga 2021

Your start to GPEP

As part of your registrar journey, you will be taking part in a noho marae at the start of the year. This noho is an essential part of your training and is an immersive experience in tikanga and mātauranga Māori. It is also where you will cover/learn about hauora Māori and the broader determinants of Māori health and equity.

The learning begins at the waharoa (entrance to the marae) with the pōwhiri and concludes only when we leave the marae after the poroporoaki (farewell).

Noho marae locations and dates

In 2026, we will be holding four noho events bringing multiple regions together to wānanga at each marae:

Nelson/Marlborough, Manawatū and Taranaki registrars will go to Wellington.

Otago and Southland registrars will go to Christchurch.

Northland, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne registrars will go to Auckland.

Your formal invite

In November all registrars will receive a personal invitation to register for the Noho. This will contain more information about travelling to and staying on the Marae.

In January you will gain access to the College’s Learning Management System, Te Ara, where you will access the Noho Marae learning module and further information.
